Your edit is definitely closer to it. Don’t they do psychological profiling to keep guys like that out of jobs where guns are involved? If not, they should really think about doing that.

20 years (or so) my younger sisters ex-boyfriend fulfilled his life long dream and became a Massachusetts state policeman. Clean cut, hard working, good student and as a bonus for the demographics of the force was of mixed race. Passed the psych test with flying colors
Within 2 years he was arrested and convicted after it was found out he was, lets say, coercing his own “sentence” to a pretty young lady he had stopped on a traffic violation. During the course of the trial, it was discovered he had done something similar a few times
Something in him just “snapped” after he got the badge
