How to be a blowhard:

N.J. commission sides with unions on public employees taking off Black Friday holiday

TRENTON — Most state workers may get to enjoy their turkey on Thanksgiving without having to worry about going to the office the next day.

In a dispute between Gov. Chris Christie’s administration and state workers unions over whether employees will have to come in on “Black Friday,” the state Public Employment Relations Commission today sided with the unions.

Under an agreement struck with the Corzine administration in 2009, state employees would work on Lincoln’s Birthday in exchange for getting the day after Thanksgiving off.

But the Christie administration sent a memo to state workers last month informing them that the day after Thanksgiving would be a regular workday, while Lincoln’s birthday would be a paid holiday. In the memo, Office of Employee Relations director David Cohen wrote that legislation would be needed to swap the holidays, and advised them not to seek the legislation because Christie wanted the Legislature to spend its time considering “tool kit” bills to curtail property taxes.

They swapped Lincoln’s Birthday for Black Friday. Now, Christie wants to change it back. Blowhard.
