re: #518 lawhawk

They shadow our forces. We know that they’re shadowing. They know that we know.

We all know. We also know that the strike capabilities of one of our ships - not even the carriers - is greater than most anything the Iranians have afloat - combined. We know this; the Iranians do too.

They’re just letting the US know that they’re keeping tabs on what we’re doing (just as we’re doing to them by subtle and not so subtle means, including shuttling carrier groups through the Strait of Hormuz).

People seem to want to get excited about things they should be getting excited about. For one, the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf is right in the front yard of Iran. What do they expect? It’s the reality of the situation and even the naval commanders expect to see an Iranian presence. One patrol boat is in fact a rather minimal presence.

Yet people want to get all excited like this is some kind of John Wayne movie. Sound the alarm! There’s one patrol boat near one of our carriers and I dare them to attack! Right attack one of these strike groups. Right now we have two strike groups in front of Iran’s face and that includes the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Abraham Lincoln. That doesn’t include British vessels in the Persian Gulf.
