Because it was the union that filed the complaints. How many links do I have to post where the police union defends their members even against charges that resulted in a civilians death. Start here and scroll:

It’s the union’s role to defend their members. If they’re wrong, they’ll lose. The system works better that way. The union steward isn’t the judge, just part of the process.
