With the whacko message repeated 24/7 - particularly a message that you are really actually superior to your circumstances and you have been duped by a traitorous elite who are taking from you and giving to foreigners or ethnic groups you don’t like - soon even sane people begin to map their frustrations onto those groups and the government.

This is the part that really resonates, to me, with the Paulians and the Rand-ites and their ilk. They are convinced that they’d be doing much better in this different world that they want, and they’re convinced others are currently getting what’s theirs.
