My oldest showed me this, the parable of the polygons. Long simulation short: Any amount of “I will be unhappy if I am not around at least x% of those like me” ultimately causes separation; on the other hand, “I will be unhappy unless at least x% of those around me are different” prevents segregation even if x is a very small positive number.”

We can’t just want no segregation; we have to want integration.
