I wonder why he was demoted and given a less than honorable discharge (but he never deployed overseas). It is being treated as a domestic terrorism case.

One of the main questions is why he would target a Sikh temple. Was it because he lumped Sikhs together with Muslims or mistook Sikhs for Muslims (xenophobia/Islamophobia). His white supremacist ties can support either.
