I have to agree with this accessment. I just can’t see Trump doing better. I did feel the same about Bush in 2004 but his team was more competent than Trump’s too.

Bush had a few things going for him that Trump doesn’t.

Through most of 2003, Bush’s approval ratings were in the 60s. Even in 2004, as the election went on, he never dropped much below 46-47%. Trump would strangle a hooker live on Fox News for 45% approval at this point.

On top of that, Kerry wasn’t a particularly great nominee, nor was he particularly inspiring. Trump isn’t going to have the luxury of a less than stellar opponent in 2020.
