That’s sort of a good point too. They see everything through the class lenses, also the racial relations. You know like, “fascism is an outgrowth of capitalism” and stuff, which it may be, but it’s also much more than that.

And Western socialists are still better than, say, the Russian ones, who can be sexist, racist and homophobic at once.

Since it’s arguable that 90% of the issues that are subsumed under “identity” - racism, sexism, homophobia - are outgrowths of the use of class differences by the aristocracy to keep the proletariat divided and fighting among themselves, is that really such a bad orientation?

Slight bit of snark there as I’m dipping into college lefty lingo but the reality is that the class war does underlie much of the rest of these issues. Since they are seen as individual issues, especially in the US which is amazingly blind to the class warfare practiced by the 1% against the rest of the nation, they do have to be addressed individually. But there also has to be education about the reality of the classes and about how the destruction of the middle class as we know it in America is useful to the upper classes and how things like racism, sexism and homophobia are useful to keeping people from organizing against their oppression. I’m just left wondering if such education is even possible anymore in a nation of American Idol, Walmart & and “Every Child Left Behind” education system…
