Then we wait. Why should we hit the reset button on a nationalist state like Russia with little or no rights for gays, ethnic minorities, and freedom of the press. Their police departments are the most corrupt in the world and their political system is far from democratic. That’s just the short list.

I make exception for the rights of ethnic minorities. What rights do they lack, if they’re citizens? We don’t have an “ethnicity” field in our passports. Of course, informally all things are possible (e.g. you’re more likely to be stopped by cops in Moscow if you’re Caucasian or Asian - profiling), and this is also true of the US. Also, our militsiya is extremely corrupt but I don’t think it’s the most corrupt in the world. Let’s keep it in rational bounds ;-)
