This was a rather long, drawn-out fight. I’m not sure saying that it was rolling over for them at every opportunity.

Seriously, if one party in the legislative process is both unwilling to compromise and willing to cause enormous damage to the country by holding up vital legislation, it’s pretty effective blackmail. To not give into it, in this case actually engaging with default, has pretty dire consequences. So does the blackmail itself. But that’s really not the fault of the Democrats. In the end, it’s the American people who elected these gasbags, and we have to ask why the American people are so ill-informed.
