Heard a weird one from a very partisan Democratic friend-BP wants to keep it closed so that the exact flow can never be known, so as to low ball the EPA per barrel fines. I thought that unlikely given all that is going on.

And, RWC- the fact that this is capped, and the relief well is nearly finished and it appears there will be little or no additional pollution from the flow … doesn’t mean the story is over.

Apparently some of the Florida beach places are beginning to get calls, people wanting to come for a vacation now that the oil has stopped. And some of the fishermen are back to work.

But there are still no permits being issued for new or continued drilling operations, anywhere (shallow or deep water). That will have a profound effect on a lot of people. But for most people - getting that flow stopped was the whole story, and it’s essentially over for them. Not for us though (and by us, I mean Louisiana).
