It doesn’t matter what it costs. Most people won’t pay it. You can’t give millions of people access to your content for free for years on end, then turn around and start charging them for it.

There are far too many other sources for free online news out there that people will just remove the NYT from their bookmarks and go elsewhere. Putting everything behind a paywall is stupid and will fail, just like it did when they tried putting their editorials behind a paywall.

It does matter what it costs. I buy $0.99 books for Kindle often, that I would never pay full price for. That way I can have 5 or 6 going at one time, depending on mood.

Somehow it seems to me an online access should be less than a print one, unless the print really is more than $35 per month. If they want readers it should be $9.99 per month, or less.
