Yeah I’m reading about 1930’s Germany now and a lot of Americans unfortunately felt that the Jews deserved the treatment they were getting in Germany or that the reports of violence were exaggerated. I think a good question to ask someone on the right who claims that the Nazis are on the left is to ask them why so many conservatives in the 1930’s seemed okay with Hitler, Mussolini, and later Franco because of their anti-communism. I’ve read more contemporary reports from 1930’s liberals and leftists(and that includes those damn commies) warning about Nazi Germany. Conservatives nowadays will never admit it but their ideology had a huge tint of ANti-Semitism to it especially in Europe.

Read Beevor’s book on the Spanish Civil War next. It’s frightening to me how much the far right rhetoric echos that of the Falangists and Franco. They didn’t completely stop the extrajudicial homicides of leftists and union organizers until Franco went to hell.
