If you look at the info I posted above, you’ll see you have the scenario exactly backwards, and are projecting the attitudes and actions of AGW deniers onto those who accept the science. You might as well accuse women who speak out against domestic violence or black people who speak out against racism of “inflaming” the other side.

LVQ is talking about the ringleaders. The smooth types who have triple digit IQ’s with room to spare, and who give a lot of time and thought to the subject. They cannot plead ignorance.

The rank and file of denialists include people just as smart, but busy with their own lives and ignorant for lack of time and effort. Not culpably ignorant. Also, people not as smart, and ignorant for lack of understanding of the science, which is after all somewhat difficult.

To reiterate, it’s a bad idea to harden one’s own heart against people who may well not be deliberately aiming at destroying the earth’s future, who may not understand the implications of what they’re doing, and who may eventually come around. There is a time and place for implacable hatred and a settled determination to destroy an enemy who knows no argument but force, and there is a time for a different, softer, attitude.
