There could be a problem with the valve that the acoustic switch would not have helped, too early to say.

They have not been able to turn the valve with ROVs. Sounds to me like this acoustic stuff is a red herring by someone who would rather have an oversight explanation (ultimately blamable on the powers that be who set the standards) than a screwup one.

(Did I say powers that be setting standards? Sorry, I meant industry self regulation. Silly me./)
