What’s amusing to me regarding the hatred of the present pope by the wingnuts is that popes have been criticizing income equality and capitialistic excesses for years now. Hell I think they were before the Russian revolution even. Point though is Francis is A) I think actually sincere with his criticism as he lives a pretty austere lifestyle and B) he finds poverty and inequality much more offensive than gay people and abortion.

Yes, the Church has addressed poverty and capitalism starting in 1891 with Pope Leo’s encyclical Rerum Norarum:
