I suspect the rationale is that chivalry requires a pretty strict hierarchy, and generally men outranked women, children, elderly and others they were supposed to protect. If you stepped outside that societal structure you forfeited those protections, thus, women who don’t recognize the authority of men in general are no longer protected.

Ah that’s a good point. Of course the golden age of “chivalry” was a time when you could get burned at the stake so not exactly nostalgia worthy anyhow.
