I’ve lived in MN all my life, and I can tell you without hesitation that driving on snow is a piece of cake compared to driving on ice. We very rarely have ice storms up here so we find it as horrid as you do, but if they happen anytime between Halloween and Memorial Day, there’s usually enough salt residue on the roads to help melt it.

I learned how to drive in Chicago. My dad, wise man that he was, took me to the high school empty parking lot a couple of icy Sunday afternoons and made me put the car into spins so I learned what it felt like and how to deal with it. Those lessons saved my ass several times.
