There’s a whole sub-culture of counterfactual history that stretches back centuries (the Book of Mormon, for example) as well as more recent examples like Scientology (Xenu and volcanoes). There was even an attempt back in Victorian times to relocate every Biblical event involving Jesus to the south-west of England because of course England was the finest place on Earth well duh.
