re: #521 Lidane

Depends on how you look at it.

Personally, I like being able to openly own my sexuality and my sex life. I like the fact that we’ve evolved enough to where a woman’s consent is taken seriously, except by some ignorant, backwards-thinking assholes. I like the fact that as a woman, I can admit to things like enjoying sex and the occasional bit of porn and not be slut-shamed for either.

We’ve come a long way. We’ve still got farther to go, but it’s a hell of a lot better now than it was when my mom was growing up.

But how does it work out for society as a whole? One of the whole points of the previous social rules was that kids got to grow up with their fathers. Their biological fathers, to be precise.

This, as long experience has shown, is good for the kids most of the time. It’s also good for the father, who gets a reason to settle down and find his groove.

Even in the Victorian age, men and women made the usual arrangements and a good time was had by all. Now, we’re paying a price in more troubled kids, growing up halfway rudderless.

There has to be some happy medium, where recreational sex has its place for those who don’t want that for-better-for-worse contract with its joys and challenges, but where parenthood is taken more seriously.
