I have forgotten whether the balls were fed to the dragon prior to stabbing, or just as a poison. It was in the book of Daniel and is not in the King James version.

I seem to remember a story from one of my middle-school readers, about an Eskimo kid (this was before “Eskimo” came to be considered politically incorrect) who killed a polar bear that was threatening his village by coiling sharpened strips of springy whalebone into hollowed-out hunks of frozen whale blubber, and feeding these nasty little bombs to the polar bear, which subsequently died of a perforated intestine.
