re: #541 Lidane

Good question. I haven’t been to a regular doctor in ages. I don’t get sick that often and when I have in the past couple of years, I’ve just gone to the campus clinic.

I can, however, tell you that my dentist runs me around $160 just for a cleaning and basic checkup. Any actual work that has to be done runs into the thousands of dollars.

For example, he wants to replace the remaining silver fillings I still have with the white composite filling that are used now, and that would run me almost $2000. And I’m already dreading what getting my wisdom teeth out will cost me. It’s insane. I’m going to have to just do it all one step at a time and when I can afford it.

Ouch. I can relate to dental. Dental here in Canada is not covered under basic medical (at least in the two provinces I’ve lived in) so unless you have some sort of extended medical insurance or it’s work place benefit it’s out of pocket. The costs you relate seem comparable. Last time I went to dentist was ten years ago when it was covered through my work. Luckily I have really good teeth and have only had one cavity in my lifetime so I can get away with it. My sister however didn’t luck out on the gene thing and inherited Dads soft teeth. Luckily her husband has partial coverage through his work so the cost is reduced. Even so last year she paid out a couple of thousand on teeth problems.
