So far there have been many arrests but not that many if you think about it. None protesters required any hospitalization because of NYPD interaction that was involved. Neither has then been any notable cases of property destruction by the demonstrators nor violence within the group.

And that is why I get so irritated by the constant railing about ‘violent tactics’ being ‘embraced’ by OWS, mostly by KT. Disagree with who organized it, fine - Obdicut has clearly opposed the involvement of Adbusters since the very beginning. He is clear on why he opposes it and I can respect that.

Someone mentioned earlier today that it gets very tiring to have to read the implication that if you support OWS in any way, you’re a dumb hippie who’s being duped by Marxists and if you were smart you’d realize that the violent Marxists are executing a bloodless coup and taking over the Democratic party.

In a word, that’s bullshit.

I lurked here for a long time before I signed up, and I signed up because I saw that people here could disagree without being insulting. And 99% of the time that has held true.

The other 1%, since the start of OWS, is exhausting to have to put up with. I realize that KT is sort of an elder here, and I at one point said that he was sticking up for the Tea Party (and after being corrected I took it back), and I won’t make that accusation again.

But don’t infer that those of us who support the idea of OWS are dupes or idiots because we think something good could (repeat, could) come out of OWS. It’s too early for me to know for sure that it could be a positive movement, and it’s damn sure too early to announce that it’s a failure. Just too soon to tell.

I do support the idea of OWS, and I think that if KT gets the consideration that he’s not a Tea Party supporter, then those of us who see something positive there also deserve the consideration that we’re not stupid hippies.
