Yeah, those kind of things back up my worries. And while it’s true the share of the total population is getting smaller, it feels like between the media fervor and new, repeated institutional barriers constantly popping up, that might not translate into an electoral shift for years. It scares me, and my personal advocacy continues to run into people who shoot far away to the right out of spite, and folks who shrug and simply say ‘they’ve got a point’ and pull the ‘both sides same thing’ bullshit.

I’ve lost so much of my will for politics because of how impenetrable it continues to feel and yet I feel compelled to keep following it because I have a duty to keep informed. It’s become a bit of a depressive masochistic spiral, and the Trump phenomenon has just made it feel even worse.

Racism is a learned behaviour. Children are not naturally racist, they come by it from their parents. Thus, if baby boomer parents are racists, the odds go way up their millennial children are too.

Of course not all baby boomers are racists. Even growing up in the South (Virginia and Maryland) during Jim Crow, I did not turn into a racist because my parents were not, and they countered the local narrative.
