Something that concerns me. Obama and the democrats are making breathtaking moves at grabbing power and growing government. They know that the economic and employment effects will be dramatic if not ruinous. They know what happened under Jimmy Carter and certainly have to be aware that they will be in danger of being thrown out in the upcoming election cycles.
It has to be assumed that they are not stupid or at the very least not politically suicidal.
So what do they do to prevent paying the price electorally for their overreach?

Run against Republicans.
