Not really - this is more a matter of ego than ideology. Jim DeMint’s been setting himself up as the defacto Tea Party leader in the Senate, and gotten a ridiculously inflated sense of importance to boot (he once single-handedly held up all unanimous consent bills). He won’t like Rand Paul muscling in on his turf.
