So for the last few monthsāsince Easter, in fact, Iāve been spending some part of my Sunday mornings out in front of āThe Trinity Churchā in Scottsdale. This is the new home of manly man preacher Mark Driscoll, who managed to crater a multi-campus, multi-state church organization based out of Seattle less than two years ago by refusing to go under discipline from his elders. The House of Driscoll has not officially opened yet (that doesnāt happen until August 7), but heās somehow managed to scrape together the money/cosigners/who knows what to buy the property in the picture behind me. That property has a Full Cash Value of $21 million dollars, per Maricopa County.
I said years ago before his Seattle gig crashed and burned that if the guy ended up in my neck of the woods, Iād be out on the sidewalk, and there I am. I try to keep my criticisms as secular as possible. Basically, itās about the plagiarism and using church money to game the NYTimes bestseller list and the way he treated women in his old church, and where the heck did all the money go for the Global Fund and the Jesus Fest, etc., etc.
Yesterday I had a web acquaintance from Dubai via Tucson join me in picketing the House of Driscoll. He took a couple of pictures, and above is one of them. He went inside for the āBible studyā and later reported that there were only about 100 adults there and he could not record anything. Iām such an evil person, it warms the cockles of my cold, cold heart that Driscoll is not packing them in. I have to wonder how he expects to pay the mortgage.
