I think there was this old singer Cat something who converted to a real fundamentalist form of Islam who also urged people to not play his music any more - and supported the death sentence against Salman Rushdie. And when his funds dried up - I assume - he said he did not really mean that he wanted people to not listen to his secular music anymore.

Shortly afterwards of course God spoke to him in a dream and ordered him to get his ass back in that recording studio again…
