Paid my property tax this week.

$13,665 for a house I bought for $155,000 in 1997.

But we don’t have a personal income tax! Yay for us!

Yikes, that’s a high property tax rate.

Right wing talking heads always claiming California has high taxes, but our property taxes are quite low thanks to Prop 13.

And that is a problem, because it means revenue has to be raised in other ways. So the state income tax is relatively high for the upper tax bracket.

Sales tax is also high because, again, the local communities don’t get enough from the 1% (+ misc) from the property tax.
