The point being, if he was not born in the US, his mother’s citizenship, by statute, did not confer US citizenship on him. He would have had to be naturalized. This is pretty good motive for his grandparents to have planted the birth notice announcement. Interestingly, under Hawaiin law, they could have still gotten a certificate of live birth (do your own research).
