Fascism can be either left wing or right wing. Or as in the Merriam Webster definition: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control. The same with a dictatorship which can be both. There is also sometimes a mixture of the two between left and right. The 3rd Reich were also political opportunists and often weaved a path between leftist and rightist idealism.
