The last time Ashley Judd commented on Kentucky politics and the subject of mountaintop removal, local political groups and coal companies (one of McConnell’s key backers) put up billboards pointing out that she had appeared nude on film. “Ashley took her top off, why can’t we?” was the label, or some such.

So your statement is actually accurate of KY: very, very ugly culture war/identity politics is SOP, and not even party exclusive.
