I want to know who the cretin was who decided that Daylight Savings Time should end AFTER halloween.

I understand the theory - kids can trick or treat in daylight and be safer.

Well guess what? Kids have picked up on the fact that trick or treat is fun in darkness and not fun in daylight. Even the little ones know this.

Taking your kid out to trick or treat in daylight on halloween and making them stop at darkness is a form of child abuse. People who do this to kids heap shame on them and the kids know it. But they stoically plod along - obediently following a parent door to door with downcast eyes. Keen observers recognize the twilight parade of the shamed as a living history reenactment of the bataan death march. “Trevor! Stop pulling at your utility belt” barks the mommy at the downtrodden batman who came to my door at 5 pm. In sympathy I doubled his allotment of partially hydroginated rations.

A brief flash of a smile crossed Trevor’s face, blunted by a “What do you say, Trevor?” shouted from the curb. I wonder if Trevor might have been fidgeting with his utility belt in search of some tool that might subdue his captor long enough to let him run up and down the streets.with his peers after dark, shouting out which house to go to next and wondering aloud how many houses could they get to in one night.
