Well, it’s a part of the fantasy that needs something holding it up. We can quote Thomas Jefferson all we want, but an armed revolt in this country would be ended abruptly by a very large, very well-trained military. ‘Tain’t no doubt.
So the best way to make the fantasy work is to assure your listeners that that military would HELP them, if push came to shove.
Armed revolt can only happen when a population feels it has nothing left to lose. Libya and Romania come to mind.
That’s also the only situation where military loyalty can come into question. And it didn’t even during the bonus marchers crisis so I’d say we can forget the military breaking with the government.
Teabaggers won’t ever really revolt because they still have all their things and a quite cushy lifestyle. Too much to loose.
