Can I just say that defending Bush is making me laugh right now? I’ve never been a fan. I was a very vocal critic of his as governor and as POTUS.
The fact that I’m talking him up in comparison to Perry is hilarious to me.
I don’t think it’s really worth defending Bush in relation to Perry. They’re just different kinds of trouble.
I think Bush was perhaps more innocent of the ramifications of his policy decisions (i.e., maybe he really didn’t realize that Medicare Part D was a very cost-ineffective way of achieving the stated goal of covering prescription drugs). But ultimately I don’t think policy under Perry would be much different from that under Bush, with the possible exception of Muslim-bashing.
