With Krupp, it was indeed a dual motive: Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach wanted to gain defense contracts, and also to avenge Germany’s humiliation at the hands of the Allies. That last is a cardinal difference from today: The defeat in WWI and the hatred in Germany of the Versailles Treaty greatly enhanced Hitlar’s opportunities.
