It can actually be both, justified (karmic but not legally) and the executioner should face the law. There was an IN case that just wrapped up recently where a convicted killer killed his roommate who was a child molester. Do I think the kiddie raper got what he “deserved”, yes. Do I think it’s a good idea to let prisoners decide among themselves who gets the DP? No.
Part of the confusion in a discussion like this is deciding what is morally objectionable on a personal level and what should be legally morally objectionable.
