I just volunteer on the weekends, it’s a few hours of my time. I work with people who do it sixty hours a week. I couldn’t, I’d burn out with anger for these kids— and at them, too.

True. There’s a wonderful series of essays about that in a collection called “The Invulnerable Child”. Boy Named Sue principle.

I think that girl who just got robbed by her own father is going to do fine, if she can manage to graduate. She just needs to learn that love and trust aren’t innately bound.
