re: #58 freetoken

Been looking at some reports of local politics from around the country and various races (for governors, AG, etc) especially for Republican nominations.

I’m struck by how very strident the “right” has become, in that even self-avowed “conservative Christian” candidates are no longer “conservative” enough! (Perhaps later I’ll have time to write up a Page entry about some of them.)

For example, there is one case where a woman who describes herself as a pro-life Christian, who’s opinion on abortion - that it should only be allowed in cases of rape and incest - is not hard core enough! Her opponent “opposes abortion in all instances.”

Wow.

Best case scenario, tacking so far to the right blows up spectacularly in the GOP’s faces, allowing party moderates to sweep the decks and return sanity to the ranks.

Worst case scenario, they make out like bandits come November, see the successes as a “mandate,” and drive the moderates either out of the party entirely or into isolation while they work to frak things up even worse.
