I suppose as long as anonymous contributions are possible that is a risk. But… Do we really want to do away with anonymous political contributions entirely? People could get in big trouble at work or with their union for being outed donating to the “wrong” causes.

No one is worried about someone’s coffee money—set a recordkeeping level high enough to be efficient and low enough to stop abuse. When I gave Obama the stimulus rebate that Bush mailed me, it was enough to trigger an on-line public database.
