Actually, Red Dawn is this time capusle and cultural touchstone. I have seen it NOW, but only very recently, and only because jimmah had no clue about it— so we downloaded it (hee) like last month.

I can’t really claim to have seen it, but now I understand - it’s like the John Hughes-ish film for the 80’s for wingnuts.

That’s overly harsh. but it is totally a product of Reagan-era Cold War fear stuff and it doesnt end in a yay wolverines way. I can see why it was effective. It’s like “the Breakfast Club plus Saint Elmos Fire plus Taps” for Young Republicans.
