Besides the unfortunate fact that most of us would be well served by questioning our eyes, ears and reasoning more often, I’m still not sure I understand. You’re assuming some desire to decieve on God’s part, when there is no reason to do so. The choice of creating an old universe could simply have been one of utility.

we have been doing that for ages: just using our eyes, we see a flat Earth standing still and the heavenly bodies moving. Using our reasoning and deduction, we come to other conclusions…

but yes, god could have created an ancient universe just like John Wayne built a replica of a 250-year-old Alamo so he could film himself defending it as Davey Crockett…why not?
