Of course not. However, any law that allows an American Citizen to be arrested simply because he looked like an illegal immigrant is completely outrageous.

The phrase “Papers, please” should never be uttered within American borders.

I was asked for my papers last week. DL, registration, and title.
(I got off with a warning, whew.)

I’ve been asked for ID when using my credit card, writing checks, and don’t even think about getting on an airplane without ID.

Try registering your child for school. Birth certificate and immunization record. That’s not just ID, that’s medical history.

The question is exactly what times do you think it should be illegal to ask for identification?

(This is not a defense of the bill. I’m just pointing out that we are already periodically asked for ID.)
