When I was a kid (about 9 or 10) we lived in Greece. The Greek tradition is to offer sweets to guests, an offer that can’t be refused. Even as a kid I didn’t like sweets so I somehow figured out what diabetes was and started telling people I was diabetic. No more forced sweets. This gimmick has served me well for a very long time. Social phobias, no meds. Perfect!
