I don’t even understand the point of the pedigree stuff, either. If you want to invent a new martial art, do it. New martial arts are awesome. Akido is new, and it’s one of the pre-eminent martial art forms. Krav Maga is new and it’s probably the pre-eminent noncompetitive martial art form.

And besides, we’ve learned a lot about the human body since the old ones were developed. Even traditional styles like jujitsu have taken that knowledge in.

It’s a prestige thing. Saying that you’re a black belt in a 4000-year-old lost ancient art from China automatically gives you a bigger penis than the guy that’s a black belt in some wimpy new martial art that was invented in the 1970’s. Don’t ask me how, but it does, srsly.
