I don’t think that’s what happened, but if you’re the only one getting their card compromised, the wifi company may point to that and say “Ain’t on our end.”

I think what I’m wanting to know is HOW someone accesses the info floating on the wifi waves. I mean, is it a neighbor within 50 feet or… I dunno.
