Not quite, since the knowledge gaps in the two are quite different.

But it occurred to me that the New York Times might be avoiding defending the AGW scientific consensus at this time. The US is currently experiencing a pretty bad winter right now (the worst Chicago has seen in 30 years, actually) and talk of global warming is liable to be met with hoots and derision at the present time. So the NYT might have decided to elide over the issue when possible for the time being.
