I think trying to impeach for historical events before being elected will not sit well with lots of people. It will smack of overturning the will of the people / election results rather than punishment for crimes committed while in office

You’re already thinking further ahead than most of the GOP base is. They’re probably already thinking up long lists of “charges” that go back to Whitewater. And Chaffetz insists he’s got “years” of stuff to investigate, so odds are we’re going to see the GOP spend the next 4 years relitigating the past 20 years.
