re: #56 Dangerman (misuser of the sarc tag)

the partisanship is not the fact that the dems, and only the dems are ‘for’ impeachment

it’s that the reason no R’s are for impeachment is in
- their unanimous and blanket refusal to admit the sky is blue and the grass is green.
- the administration’s blanket refusal to acknowledge and participate in the process (suing in court over congressional subpoenas is not participating. this is black letter constitution)

Fun fact: the federalist papers are available for free on the Congressional website. And here’s Hamilton’s exact quote from 65:

Where else than in the Senate could have been found a tribunal sufficiently dignified, or sufficiently independent? What other body would be likely to feel CONFIDENCE ENOUGH IN ITS OWN SITUATION, to preserve, unawed and uninfluenced, the necessary impartiality between an INDIVIDUAL accused, and the REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE, HIS ACCUSERS?

It’s also worth remembering that when Hamilton was writing this, Senators weren’t expected to be popularly elected. Which, in theory, would have reduced the potential for naked partisanship in the Senate.
